How two Legends, created a Legacy...
Legacy Co-Founders Coach Jeff Standish brought Coach John Schropp into the travel ball world to help him coach the 16u Orion Hunter team! Coach Schropp and Coach Standish worked together to save the Organization from folding when they fell onto hard times. Under their leadership, Orion Hunter was able to turn a corner and become a more established organization. In 2006, after several successful seasons coaching the Orion Hunter 18u team Coach Standish and Coach Schropp decided it was time to hang up the whistles and retire from coaching.
Their softball retirement was short lived and after only 6 months they began the Galaxy of Stars Organization. Coach Standish and Coach Schropp took a group of rough 10 and 14 year old girls and transformed them into ball players and every one of the seniors from that team went to college on a softball scholarship!! Shortly thereafter, the Galaxy of Stars joined forces with the Virginia Legends Fastpitch team. This was a successful union for a while, but eventually Coach Standish and Coach Schropp felt it was time for a change. Little did they know that change would be a Legacy and Virginia Legacy Elite was born!
Through the years that Coach Standish and Coach Schropp coached together they have maintained an impressive 75% winning record! Their teams have qualified and played in several National Championships, including ASA/USA “A” and ASA Gold tournaments. Every girl that played on one of Coach Standish and Coach Schropp’s teams and wanted to continue playing softball at the college level has received the opportunity to do so. These men dedicated their lives to the betterment of their communities and Legacy will continue on for generations. Once a Legend, Now creating a Legacy!
